Exploring Alternative Non-Hearing Options for Resolving Complaints of Sex Discrimination

Going through a formal complaint resolution process to resolve a formal complaint of sexual misconduct can be a lengthy and intimidating process, for an institution as well as the involved parties. But not all reports of alleged sex discrimination must be resolved through a formal complaint resolution process.

Under Title IX regulations, institutions may use an informal resolution process to resolve formal complaints when appropriate and with the parties’ consent. In addition, complaints of sex discrimination that do not involve allegations of sexual misconduct can be handled in accordance with an institution’s other policies. While these alternative processes provide options for institutions to respond to reports in a manner that reduces stress for those involved and saves time and resources, it can be difficult to determine when these processes are appropriate.

In this webinar, we will address the available non-hearing options for resolving complaints of sex discrimination. By working through hypothetical cases, attendees will learn how to determine which process should apply or be explored.
